形態特徵

• Culms 10-24 m tall, 5-15 cm in diam.; internodes 15-50 cm long; nodes prominent; walls 1-5 cm thick; branches usually 2 or 3, with recurved smaller or larger spines at each node.
• Sheath of culm deciduous, coriaceous, orange-yellow dense1y covered with black-brown hairs when young, often quite glabrous when o1d, rounded at apex, margins entire with golden hairs; auricles of sheath absent with brown cilla; ligule of sheath narrow, to 2 mm high, margins hairy; blade of sheath more or less ref1exed, triangular, acute, narrowed at base, low surface densely covered with dark brown hairs. Leaves 5-11, linear-lanceolate, 7-22 cm long, 0.5-15 broad, obtuse or nearly rounded at base, pubescent beneath, veins 4-6, veinlets 7-9, parallel, spinulose-scabrous along margins; petiole short, 5 mm long; auricles of leaf small, edge bearing a few bristles; ligule of leaf narrow, entire; leaf-sheaths glabrous, minutely cilliate on margins.
• Spikelets in clusters of 4-12 at nodes of leafless branches, 1.1-2.5 cm long, 3-6 flowered; glumes 2,ovate-oblong, 3.5-5.5 mm long, veins 10-15, glabrous, entire; lemma similar to glume but larger, ovate-oblong, 6-8 mm long, veins 13-17, glabrous, entire; palea ca. as long as lemma, veins 3-5 between keels, 2 between each keel and edge, densely hairy on keels; ovary obovate, hairy above, with 3 vascular strands seen in cross section; style short with 3 feathery stigmas; stamens 6, filaments short, anthers 3-5 mm long, concave at tip; lodicules 3, obovate, 1.5-2.5 mm long, hairy along upper margins.
• Fruit ovoid-oblong, 4-8 mm long, 1.5-2.4 mm in diam., grooved on one side, ending in a short beak formed by base of style.

分布

• 台灣 : Introduced in Taiwan; cultivated in Taipei, Chiayi, Nantou and Kaohsiung, at low elevations.
• 世界 : Native of tropical Asia.
